Chief Claims Officer Julie Fortune Presents at ABA Conference
Arrowpoint Capital Chief Claims Officer Julie Fortune recently participated in a panel addressing “Alternative Dispute Resolutions in Workers’ Compensation” at the American Bar Association’s (ABA’s) Workers’ Compensation Midwinter Conference in Nashville, TN.
The conference was held in conjunction with the College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers' (CWCL's) 2nd Annual Symposium. Julie was inducted into the CWCL in 2016.
The conference was attended by attorneys, judges and industry experts who gathered to discuss what lies ahead in the changing landscape of workers’ compensation.
Julie’s panel provided guidance in how to conduct mediations to effectively resolve claims through alternative dispute resolutions. It was especially timely given that – with the increasing complexity of workers’ comp litigation – fewer cases are being tried and more are being mediated to resolution. Her panel discussed strategies for managing client expectations and using effective mediation techniques to bring cases to closure.
Moderating Julie’s panel was Derrick Williams, a claimant attorney with Mickle & Bass in Columbia, SC, and former South Carolina Insurance Commissioner. Other members of Julie’s panel were Gretchen Rogers, a claimant attorney with Berman, Sobin, Gross, Feldman & Darby LLP in Gaithersburg, MD; Lana Sims, a mediator with Adams & Reese LLP in Columbia, SC; and Steven Snyder, a defense attorney with McAngus, Goudelouck & Courie in Memphis, TN.
Julie joined Arrowpoint Capital as Chief Claims Officer in 2004.
